The Butterfly and the Flame

A man falls asleep and dreams he is a butterfly. When he wakes, a question remains: is he a man who dreamed he was a butterfly, or a butterfly now dreaming he is a man?
The story unsettles us because it loosens the borders we trust. We name the dream unreal and the waking world real, yet both are known through experience, memory, and attention. Perhaps the deeper question is not which identity is true, but who is present enough to witness the change.
The shape may change, but the mystery of awareness remains.
The Circle of the Sovereign Flame invites us to look beyond borrowed identities. The flame is a symbol of the inner light that survives uncertainty: a quiet power that asks us to awaken, to live with compassion, and to remember that no person is separate from the sacred life moving through all things.
Hope for humanity may begin here—not in certainty, but in a shared willingness to awaken. When we care for the light within ourselves and recognize it in one another, the dream becomes a doorway. We step through it together, changed yet more fully alive.
